Oticon Hearing Aids – Options Explained

Here in this article, you will learn about the different types of Oticon hearing aids available on the market and what distinguishes them from another. Depending on what model you choose in combination with the technology level prices change. The higher the technology level the more capable the hearing aids are in reducing noise for example in a noisy environment.

Theoretically, this sounds great and simple. Get a better hearing aid you will understand easier in a noisy environment. The Oticon hearing aids even the high-end ones to rely on a closed silicone dome that sits in your ear or a custom earmold to show their full capabilities. Here in the list below you will find all the Oticon hearing aids available.

  • Oticon More
  • Oticon Opn S
  • Oticon Ruby
  • Oticon Opn Play
  • Oticon Xceed Play
  • Oticon Xceed
  • Ponto 4
  • Oticon Geno
  • Oticon Como
  • Oticon Get

Oticon More

The launch of Oticon More also introduces two new features with MoreSound Intelligence and MoreSound Amplifier. The Oticon More can “accurately process and amplify the entire sound environment.”

MoreSound Intelligence is said to scan the acoustic environment about 500 times per second and, when used in conjunction with the DNN, is able to precisely analyze, balance, and adjust the environment to users’ listening preferences.

To this end, the “dynamic and balanced” MoreSound Amplifier amplification system offers six times the resolution of conventional hearing aids. As a result, it is said to adapt seamlessly to the respective sound environment.

The DNN available in the hearing systems has been trained with 12 million sound scenes from real life, the manufacturer spreads. With Oticon More, sound processing has been fundamentally rethought.

It was recorded 12 million sound scenes from all walks of life to train Deep Neural Network. This approach represents a big leap in sound processing.

For you as a hearing aid user, this means that the Oticon More based on the new POlars chip offers the brain 30 percent more sounds than the very popular older Oticon Opn S which is based on the Velox chip.

Unlike other hearing aid manufacturers, the sound environment is preserved in a more natural way. Other manufacturers take the approach of suppressing ambient noise, while Oticon’s More hearing aid lets the brain focus on specific sounds.

The More model Oticon is available in three different technology levels. The most dominant differences between them are:

The More 1 has the ability to process sounds up to 10 kHz while the More 2 and 3 only process the sound up to 8kHz. The ability to reduce the amplification of noise and to amplify speech in a restaurant environment is bigger in the More1 compared to the More 2 and three.

This hearing aid is available as a RIC device which means the loudspeaker sits right in your ear and the rest of the components behind your ear. The power resource is a rechargeable battery that has a runtime of 16 hours with streaming from your TV or phone. There is also a battery version planned with a 312 battery. The release should be in late 2021.

Oticon OPN

The Oticon OPN hearing aid was launched back in 2016. This hearing aid was Oticon’s best device at the time, which has now been replaced by the More. The OPN, for example, analyzes more than 100 times per second all the sounds around you while the More does this 500 times.

This hearing aid can be bought as a version with a tube between the part in the ear and the one behind your ear or with a cable between them. There is also an in-the-ear option available which may be more limited compared to the behind-the-ear versions due to the smaller size.

The OPN S 1 is also able to process sounds up to 10kHz while the OPN 2 and 3 only process sounds up to 8kHz. This model is available as a receiver in the ear version. With this version, a small cable connects the part behind the ear with the earpiece. Another version available is a classic behind the ear option. Instead of a cable, a tube connects the part behind the ear with the earpiece then. The power source can be a rechargeable battery or a replaceable one.

Oticon Ruby

The Oticon Ruby is also built with the Velox chip. But this device has less powerful features compared to the OPN hearing aids. What is missing compared to the OPN hearing aids is the software feature OpenSound Navigator which reduces noise for example.

Is the difference huge in comparison to the OPN and More hearing aids? For some, it is while for others the difference will be small or even nonexistent. It is highly recommended to test different hearing aids so you can hear for yourself.

Oticon Xceed Play and OPN Play

The Oticon model with the Play in the ending is made for a younger audience in mind. Those hearing aids are available in a wide variety of colors. Both of these hearing aids are based on the Velox S chip. The main difference between them is the missing Spatial Sound LX feature with the Xceed model and the bigger frequency spectrum the OPN can handle. For example, the OPN can process sounds up to 10 kHz while the Xceed processes sound up to 6.5 kHz.

That models are available as a receiver in the ear version. With this version, a small cable connects the part behind the ear with the earpiece. Another version available is a classic behind the ear option. Instead of a cable, a tube connects the part behind the ear with the earpiece then. The power source can be a rechargeable battery or a replaceable one.

Oticon Xceed

The Oticon Xceed is also based on the Velox S chip and is available in three different technology levels. This hearing aid is made for severe hearing loss and is a bit bigger compared to the More hearing aids. The power is channeled with a tube into your ear. It also comes with Bluetooth.

The OpenSound Navigator is not available with the cheapest Oticon Xceed 3. Both of the other options come with the OpenSound Navigator while only the Xceed 1 runs with its full capacity.

Until now I mentioned this feature a view times now only with a short explanation. If you want to know more about this feature please watch the video below. Because the Open Sound Navigator Oticon’s unique way of processing sounds and distinguishes itself with this technology from other manufactures.

The only power source you can get is a replaceable battery for the Oticon Xceed.

Oticon Ponto

The Ponto is a bone-anchored hearing aid. This method of hearing utilizes the natural sound-conducting properties of bone. The Ponto hearing system which is based on the Velox S chip is an implant system for hearing via bone conduction that helps to overcome the many challenges caused by hearing loss. Technology-wise it only comes in one option which is comparable to the high-end models of the OPN and More line up.

The Ponto needs to be powered with a replaceable battery with the size 312.

Oticon Geno

The Geno model is available in two technology levels. The main difference between them is the Geno 1 comes with a more sophisticated microphone solution. This means when someone talks to you from behind the Geno 1 is able to detect that while Geno two will not.

The second difference between them is the Geno 1 also comes with a soft speech booster which means when someone talks to you in a not-so-clear manner the device is able to detect it and make the sound a little more harder so you can understand him or her better. Both options can process sounds up to 8kHz.

You can order the Geno as a receiver in the ear option or with a classic tube. It can only be powered with replaceable batteries.

Oticon Como

The Oticon Como is a small hearing aid with an external receiver that is available with a 312 battery. Available in three different gains (60, 85, 100), the earpieces are ergonomically designed to fit almost any ear canal. It is a hearing aid that comes with more basic features compared to the hearing aids mentioned above but it looks identical to them. It is small and ergonomically to wear.

This hearing aid can process sound up to 8kHz. You can order the Como as a receiver in the ear option or with a classic tube. It can only be powered with replaceable batteries.

Oticon Get

The Oticon Get is a really basic hearing aid. It can process sound up to 6.5 kHz which is sufficient to amplify the needed frequencies to understand people better during a conversation. Depending on the hearing aids you compare this might even not be a noticeable difference to you.

However when you frequently switch to different locations with different sounds this hearing aid will have not the noise management you get from the listed hearing aids above. The only way to channel the sound to your earpiece is by using a tube. It is a classic behind-the-ear hearing aid that is powered by a replaceable battery with a size 13.
